Indonesia's rival football bodies declare truce

JAKARTA, Indonesia (AP) -- Indonesia's rival football associations have agreed to resolve their nearly two-year-old dispute and find a way to merge.

The deal was signed by the FIFA-sanctioned All-Indonesia Football Association, or PSSI, and the breakaway Indonesian Soccer Rescue Committee after a meeting with Youth and Sports Minister Roy Suryo.

Under the truce, the group will hold a meeting on March 17, three days before a deadline set by the world ruling body FIFA, Minister Suryo said late Monday.

He hoped the meeting would allow for the breakaway group to merge into the PSSI.

The rift between the football bodies has been blamed in part for the death late last year of a Paraguayan striker who played for Indonesian club Persis Solo.
