Possession of marijuana: A 53-year-old Springfield man was charged with operating a vehicle while under the influence Aug. 24 at 1 a.m. on Route 14. Police said the man was traveling on Route 14 when he drove through a red light. After the vehicle was stopped, police said they detected signs that he was under the influence of alcohol including an odor of an alcoholic beverage and glassy eyes. Police also found a small plastic bag of marijuana in his possession. Police said the man's blood-alcohol count was .062, under the legal limit of .08, but he refused to give a urine sample for drugs. He was also charged with not obeying a traffic control device, possession of drugs and endangering children because a 12-year-old passenger was in the vehicle at the time.
Possession of drug paraphernalia: An 18-year-old Kent man was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia Aug. 19 at 2:33 a.m. on Route 14. Police said they stopped the vehicle for driving over the speed limit, and a glass drug pipe with residue was found in the back seat of the car. The Kent man, who was a passenger in the car, said the pipe belonged to him. No other charges were filed.
Man charged with OVI: A 52-year-old Streetsboro man was charged with operating a vehicle while under the influence Aug. 24 at 12:34 a.m. on Frost Road. Police said they stopped the man for speeding, for which he was also charged. Police said he was traveling 48 mph in a 35 mph zone. Police said they smelled the odor of an alcohol beverage on him. The man failed field sobriety tests, according to police, and his blood-alcohol count was .17, over the legal limit of .08.
Electronic equipment taken: A 19-year-old Kent man was charged with theft after police said he tried to steal merchandise Aug. 22 at 2:17 p.m. from a Singletary Drive business. The alleged theft was reported by store personnel, who held the man in custody until police arrived. Police said the man tried to take a wireless phone valued at $99.
Jewelry stolen: A 24-year-old Streetsboro woman was charged with theft after police said she tried to steal a $20 ankle bracelet Aug. 22 at 1:49 p.m. from a Route 14 business. Store management also allege the woman, a former store employee, took the items while she was working at the store, according to police reports. Police are investigating.
