Alcohol- and

drug-related

Three-vehicle traffic crash: A 53-year-old Ravenna woman was charged with operating a vehicle while under the influence of alcohol Nov. 17 at 7:41 p.m. on Lancelot Drive. Police responded after receiving an anonymous call reporting the accident. The woman's vehicle struck a parked truck on the roadway, then the truck was pushed into a third vehicle, a parked car, according to police. The woman had an odor of an alcoholic beverage on her and failed field sobriety tests, police said. Her blood-alcohol count was .17, over the legal limit of .08. The woman was also charged with operating a vehicle without reasonable control.

Possession of drug paraphernalia: A 27-year-old Kent woman was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia Nov. 19 at 12:20 a.m. on Route 14. Police said they stopped the vehicle because it had heavily tinted windows, for which she was given a warning for illegal window tint, and smelled burnt marijuana inside. Police said they found a metal drug pipe with marijuana residue in the center dash compartment.

Assault on police officer: A 34-year-old Streetsboro man was charged with operating a vehicle while under the influence and two counts of assault on a police officer Nov. 19 at 3:41 a.m. on Ranch Road. Police stopped the vehicle because they said it was speeding. The man's eyes were unusually glossy and bloodshot, according to police, who smelled an odor of an alcoholic beverage. The man also failed field sobriety tests. When informed that he was being charged with OVI, police said the man tried to punch one officer, but a second officer held back his arm. The man was put on the ground, then began hitting and kicking the first officer, said police, who handcuffed the man. He was taken to the Portage County Jail.

Possession of drugs: A 19-year-old Auburn Township woman was charged with possession of drugs and possession of drug paraphernalia Nov. 19 at 8:44 p.m. on Route 43. Police said they received a call from a person reporting a woman was overdosing in her vehicle. EMS personnel were able to bring the woman back to consciousness before taking her to the hospital. Police said they found two bags containing green vegetable residue, which police suspect was marijuana, and a glass smoking device in the vehicle.

Theft

Merchandise taken: Police said $430 worth of merchandise was stolen Nov. 19 at 12:34 p.m. from a Singletary Drive business. Police said suspects purchased items and then came back into the store with a receipt. The suspects got additional items and left the store with them and the original receipt, according to police. When the suspects were confronted in the store by store security personnel, the items not on the receipt were taken back, police said. After checking the surveillance video, police said the theft was observed. The report does not indicate why the suspects were not detained. Police said it is unknown who the suspects are. Items taken included a socket set, a drill, packages of lasagna and meatloaf, cotton swabs, dog food and cat litter.
