Charged with OVI: A 28-year-old Stow man was charged with operating a vehicle while under the influence of alcohol June 7 at 4:16 a.m. on Seasons Road. Police said they stopped the vehicle for not obeying traffic control devices for which the man was charged. Police said the man smelled like alcohol and failed field sobriety tests. The blood-alcohol count was not listed on the police report.
Speeding: A 24-year-old Streetsboro man was charged with operating a vehicle while under the influence of alcohol June 6 at 11:52 p.m. on Greentree Parkway. Police said they stopped the vehicle because it was traveling 49 mph in a 35 mph zone, for which the man was charged with speeding. The man spelled like alcohol, according to police, who said the man failed field sobriety tests. The man's blood-alcohol count was .198, above the legal limit of .08, according to police.
Dump truck taken: Following a traffic stop June 8 at about 3 a.m., a 36-year-old East Cleveland man faces a variety of charges. Driving a dump truck, he was initially stopped and charged with marked lane violations. Police said the man did not have a valid driver's license, for which he was charged. While police were checking the man's driving record on a computer, they said the man fled on foot, and he was not immediately located following a search. Police remained in the area and arrested the man about 1 1/2 hours later in Evergreen Cemetery. Police said the man, who was taken to the Portage County Jail, told them he ran because he panicked. The man was also charged with driving under suspension, failure to comply with an order or signal from a police officer and obstructing official business. It was later learned the dump truck, valued at $10,000, was reported stolen May 31, and the man was also charged with receiving stolen property.
Man in jail: A 19-year-old Streetsboro man, who has an undisclosed active warrant through the Streetsboro Police Department, was reported to be in the Portage County Jail June 9 at 3:29 p.m. Streetsboro police served the man with the warrant.
