Charged with OVI: A 28-year-old Aurora man was charged with operating a vehicle while under the influence of alcohol July 28 at 10:35 p.m. on Market Square Drive. Police said they received an anonymous call about a fight at a nearby tavern. The man, who police said was highly intoxicated, reported 10 people wanted to fight him. The man left the parking lot as officers were pulling in. Officers said he was running his vehicle in the parking lot of a nearby fast-food restaurant. Police said the man failed field sobriety tests and smelled like alcohol. He refused to take a blood-alcohol test and was taken to the Portage County Jail.


Shoplifter caught: A 53-year-old Hudson woman was charged with theft July 29 at 12:27 p.m. after police allege she tried to steal $139 worth of merchandise from a Route 303 store. A store employee reported the female was in custody. The employee told police she observed two women placing items in a shopping cart and then going to the pharmacy to get a prescription. The employee told police the two women placed some items under the cart and only paid for two items, then walked out of the store without paying for the items under the cart. The second woman, the daughter of the woman who was charged, told police she was unaware that some items were not paid for.

Broken window: A Gillie Drive resident reported July 27 at 10:19 a.m. his vehicle had a window broken but nothing was reported missing. The man said the window was OK on the evening of July 26, but said he noticed it broken as of the morning of July 27. Police said extra patrol would be posted in the area.


Riding ATV on neighbor's property: A Route 43 man reported July 26 at 5:19 p.m. a neighbor was riding his all-terrain vehicle on his property without permission. Police spoke with the ATV rider, who said he thought the driveway belonged to another neighbor. Police told the ATV rider the driveway belongs to the neighbor who called police and told him not to enter the property. No charges were filed.
