Three veteran tennis professionals have received promotions and taken on new responsibilities at Western Reserve Racquet & Fitness Club. Their new titles and positions are: Matt Treblas, director of tennis; David Howell, head tennis professional; and Kevin Vaughn, director of junior tennis.
"We're committed to maintaining a strong tennis program at our club and are confident these men will lead the way," said Western Reserve Racquet & Fitness Club Partner Robin Palumbo.
Treblas has been a tennis and fitness instructor at Western Reserve Racquet & Fitness Club since 2005 and, in his new position, will guide and supervise the overall growth of the adult and junior tennis programs at Western Reserve Racquet & Fitness Club. He played on the varsity tennis team at Aurora High School and was one of the top players in the U.S. Tennis Association's Northern Ohio region. Treblas went on to Wittenberg University where he continued his education, as well as his tennis career. He and his wife, Jessica, and their daughter, Julianna, live in Twinsburg.
Howell, at Western Reserve Racquet & Fitness Club since 2007, will lead the adult and USA programming. He played tennis at Solon High School and went on to play at Allegheny College. He received his bachelor of arts degree from Allegheny College and master of arts from St. Lawrence University. He was the assistant tennis coach at St. Lawrence University for two years and Cleveland State University for four years before joining Western Reserve Racquet & Fitness Club. He works with both juniors and adults and also strings and repairs racquets for the club. Howell resides in Reminderville with his wife, Meagan, and sons, Owen and Porter.
Kevin Vaughn, newly promoted to director of junior tennis, will continue to supervise the growth and development of the club's 10 and under tennis program. He has more than 20 years' experience teaching and coaching tennis in Northeast Ohio. Currently, he serves as a Northeast Ohio Tennis Association Board Member, as well as an administrator and head coach for the USTA's Area Junior High Performance Training Center. In addition, he coaches the 14 and under USTA Junior Cup Team. Vaughn lives in Stow with his wife, Tracey, and son.
