Area bands, Get Well Gabby Foundation unite for Feb. 23 fundraiser at JB's

Kent -- Three bands with decades of strong ties to Northeast Ohio will unite -- and in some cases reunite -- to raise money for childhood brain cancer research through The Get Well Gabby Foundation.

Jay Patrick Boland and The Members Only Band, Matthew "Lig" Knabe, The Allen Ilg Band, Iconic Rockwear and JB's will host a night of live music, "Believe in a Cure," Feb. 23 at 7:30 p.m. at JB's in Kent, 246 North Water Street.

Admission is $7 (an additional $2 for individuals younger than 21) for this all-ages concert. Ticket sale proceeds will be donated to The Get Well Gabby Foundation, established in memory of Gabriella Vogel, a five-year-old girl who passed away in May 2011 after being diagnosed with Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma, a form of childhood brain cancer.

Matthew "Lig" Knabe is the former lead singer of the band Ligion that was a national touring act based in Nashville, but whose roots were in Cleveland. Knabe has shared the stage with Nickelback, Velvet Revolver, Puddle of Mudd, Staind, and Three Days Grace and Matchbox 20.

Jay Patrick Boland and The Members Only Band recently reunited with new members after an 8 year hiatus. Their music is described as "acoustic-driven, original rock from the heartland."

Allen Ilg has been a staple in Akron music scene for the last 15 years. The Allen Ilg Band is his latest project, which is mostly acoustic-driven music.

Ilg has enjoyed success as a solo artist and drummer in a variety of original bands in Northeast Ohio.

The foundation's mission is also to assist in the care, and well-being of children and their families who are battling childhood cancer, and to provide resources for families navigating the cancer world so they may have the opportunity to stay with their child during their journey.
