Sign up for Spring

Storytime

The Pierce-Streetsboro Library is accepting registrations for spring storytime.

"Little Listeners" for children ages 2 to 5 will meet on Tuesdays at 11:15 a.m. or Wednesdays at 10:30 a.m. beginning the week of March 25. Storytimes include stories, music, crafts, puppets, finger plays and flannel board stories. It is an excellent way to acquaint children with the library, foster a love of reading, and help children become "ready to read."

To register for these spring storytime, call the library at 330-626-4458.

Streetsboro Library's "Read to a Dog"

The Pierce-Streetsboro Library will present its "Read to A Dog" program March 9 at 11 a.m. Parker, a licensed therapy Golden Retriever, will be available to hear children practice their reading. Children may choose library books to read to Parker, or they may bring their own books. According to Therapy Dogs International, some children who difficulty reading, or who might be self-conscious about reading in front of classmates or teachers, can be helped by reading to a non-judgmental, patient therapy dog. It's fun for the children and can serve as an incentive to keep reading.

Discuss 'The Girls' March 11 at library

The Pierce-Streetsboro Library's book discussion club will meet March 11 at 3 p.m. in the library's meeting room.

The group will discuss "The Girls" by Lori Lansens, a novel about conjoined twins. Light refreshments will be served, courtesy of the Friends of Pierce-Streetsboro Library.

Stop into the library to check out a copy of the book.

For more details or to register for the program, call the Streetsboro library at 330-626-4458.

Sesame Street eBooks added to collection

Portage County District Library has added more than 150 free Sesame Street eBooks to its digital library collection.

Available anywhere, anytime, young readers will be able to enjoy classic, as well as brand-new Sesame Street eBooks. All eBooks are based on Sesame Street's early childhood curriculum. The service includes four different kinds of eBooks: read along books, audiobooks, animated books and interactive books. When reading a Sesame Street eBook with a child, parents can make story time extra engaging with bright pages, audio narration, interactivity and animation.

To access these books, visit www.portagelibrary.org and select the "Download Ebooks Audiobooks" link at the lower left-hand position on the screen. Then select the appropriate link (inside or outside a branch library) to begin enjoying the collection.

This service is available to anyone with a Portage County District Library card in good standing.

New eBook Service: Axis 360

Those who received a new tablet during the recent holiday season or already had a tablet and want to get free eBooks, visit the Portage Library Consortium's new eBook service, Axis 360. The Portage Library Consortium, a partnership between Kent Free Library, Portage County District Library and Reed Memorial Library, makes this service available to all their library patrons at no charge. Included in the digital collection are a wide range of fiction titles of interest to adults, teens and children, as well as a growing collection of non-fiction eBooks.

Axis 360 is a digital media platform which provides an engaging reading experience through its use of Blio, a free app featuring full-color, full-layout digital versions of print books on devices that support the app. Devices that do not support Blio need the Adobe Editions download for the ePub and PDF versions of eBooks. Blio and Adobe Editions can be downloaded for free from the Axis 360 site.

The Axis 360 eBook collection can be accessed through the library home pages of Kent Free, Portage County District or Reed Memorial, or by going directly to the site at http://plc.axis360.baker-taylor.com. To begin, select "Login" from the upper corner of the screen. Enter a library barcode number and select a PIN. Next, enter an email address along with the selected PIN.
