New ballet studio set to open in June in Hudson

A retail space left vacant for several years in Hudson is slowly taking shape as a new ballet studio.

Hudson residents and longtime dancers Sunita Joshi and Eric Carvill plan to open the new Hudson Conservatory of Ballet for classes in June, but will host a series of open houses on Fridays through the end of May from 4 to 8 p.m.

"It was our first time doing anything like this," said Carvill. "It's come a long way. We've talked to some of the other business owners, and they have been very friendly and supportive. I don't think we could have found a better space without building it ourselves."

Joshi said conservatory will offer training for students 3 to 18 and provide guidance to those seeking scholarships and career opportunities. A full range of class options addressing all levels of interest will be offered throughout the year beginning with two introductory sessions this summer.

Joshi said she had been teaching off and on since she was 17, but an injury led her to teach more.

"I realized this is my passion, to teach dance to others," she said. "We want to prepare students to be able to be hired by a professional dance company."

"We want to smooth out that learning curve that we went through," Carvill added.

Carvill's previous dance experience includes several years with the former Ohio Ballet, the American Ballet Theatre and Pacific Northwest Ballet. Joshi's dance experience includes dancing with Verb Ballets, American Ballet Theatre, and North Carolina Dance Theatre.

The conservatory's studios are in The Orchard at 5847-3 Darrow Road, Unit 1, behind Callahan's Carpet in Hudson. The school will feature two studios with more than 4,000 square feet of classroom space. Additionally, a waiting area equipped with Wi-Fi and classroom viewing windows will be available for the student's families. For details, visit www.Hudsonconservatory.com.

Registration for the upcoming summer sessions is open. Class schedules and fees are available by calling the studio at 330-474-0813 or by email at hcballet@hudsonconservatory.com.
