'Singin' on the Ohio' returns for two weekends

Published:

The Lantern Theatre will perform "Singin' on the Ohio" for two weekends, Aug. 23 and 24, and Sept. 6 and 7, at 2 p.m.

Performances are at the old Gleeson Farm, now Canal Corners Farm & Market, at the corner of Canal Road and Tinkers Creek Road in Valley View.

The year is 1845. A young African-American orphan, Bit Mullers, must travel from Cleveland to Cincinnati to join her Aunt Sophia. The first part of her journey, along the Ohio-Erie Canal, is onboard the Annabelline, piloted by Irish-American immigrant, Timothy Egan. Bit is literate. Timothy cannot read. But Timothy can sing and Bit is afraid of singing.

Their journey together, down the canal, becomes one of growth and understanding.
