Streetsboro — A man was transported to Akron City Hospital after he shot himself in the chest early this morning, according to a Nov. 26 news release from the Streetsboro Police Department.

Police said they responded to a report of a 49-year-old man threatening to commit suicide in a William Henry Drive home at about 9:30 p.m. Nov. 25. Officers could see a man through a bedroom window, holding a gun to his chest and summoned the Metro SWAT team, according to the news release.

The SWAT team formed a perimeter around the home and was able to communicate with the man, but personnel were unable to convince him to exit the home.

At about 1:40 a.m. Nov. 26, police heard a gunshot from inside the home, and moments later the male walked out the front door with a single, self-inflicted gunshot wound to his chest, states the news release.

He was treated on the scene by SWAT team medics and Streetsboro EMTs and then transported to Akron City Hospital, where Streetsboro Polic Lt. Darin Powers said he's listed in critical condition.

The man’s name is not being released, and no charges have been filed.
