Man shoots himself, ending standoff with SWAT team

Streetsboro — A man was transported to Akron City Hospital after he shot him-self in the chest in the early morning hours of Nov. 26, according to a news release from the Streetsboro Police Department.

Police said they respond-ed to a report of a 49-year old man threatening to commit suicide in a home on William Henry Drive at about 9:30 p.m. Nov. 25.

Officers could see a man through a bedroom win-dow, holding a gun to his chest and summoned the Metro SWAT team, accord-ing to the news release.

The SWAT team formed a perimeter around the home and was able to com-municate with the man, but personnel were unable to convince him to exit the home.

At about 1:40 a.m. Nov. 26, police heard a gunshot from inside the home, and moments later the male walked out the front door with a single, self-inflict-ed gunshot wound to his chest, states the release.

He was treated on the scene by SWAT team med-ics and Streetsboro EMTs and then transported to Akron City Hospital. No charges have been filed as of press time.
