Vigil planned in Streetsboro for victims of Connecticut shooting

A vigil in remembrance of the students and teachers who were slain in the recent Connecticut school shooting was held Friday at 6pm at the Streetsboro Flea Market, 1513 S.R. 303.

It was organized by Ralph Knerem of Streetsboro, who said 26 bells were rung at the vigil in remembrance of the 26 children and teachers who died. "The Streetsboro WalMart donated 26 candles to be lit in their memory," said Knerem.

"We wanted to recognize the children and teachers and to let the parents and loved ones know that Streetsboro supports them," he said. "We want them to know that if they need help with anything, we are here for them."

"I wanted people to remember that these kids never had a chance to grow up, to graduate, to get married and have children of their own," said Knerem. "It is a sad situation that something like this has to happen in our nation."

The event was open to the public.

"Everyone was welcome to come up and say anything they wanted," he said.
