Streetsboro considering mutual aid agreement for service department emergencies

Streetsboro -- City Council was presented a draft of a possible mutual aid agreement Jan. 14, which Mayor Glenn Broska would like to establish with Kent, Stow, Hudson, Aurora, Tallmadge, Mantua, Shalersville, Garrettsville, Ravenna, Twinsburg and Sugar Bush Knolls.

The mutual aid agreement being considered would apply to service departments. Broska has said that microbursts, tornadoes, floods and utility problems like gas leaks may demand a stronger response than an individual community can muster. In those cases, municipalities subject to the agreement would respond by offering equipment and manpower.

Unlike most mutual aid agreements already in place, this one would not apply to the police and fire department. Those agreements have been in place for many years among neighboring communities, stipulating that nearby fire or police departments come to the aid of a community with a major fire or crime.
