Getting to Know Howie Klausner
What is something about Clint Eastwood that people might not know?
"He's a very good helicopter pilot," Klausner said. "When we were shooting 'Space Cowboys,' he would often 'arrive like a rock star,' according to James Garner, as he set this really cool French-made turbo jet helicopter down next to the set, breezed off and started directing the scene like he'd just come back from a coffee break."
What is your favorite movie that you were not involved in?
"I think 'Hugo' is the best movie I've seen in 20 years," Klausner said.
You play guitar in a rock 'n roll oldies band in Nashville. What is the name of your band, and what are some examples of musical groups whose music you play?
"Our name is 'The Authorities,'" Klausner said. "Yes, we're the authorities on '70s and '80s dance music, but also the drummer and bass player are active firefighters, and a cop occasionally sits in with us. We play music by the Cars, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Joe Walsh, the Eagles, Credence Clearwater Revival, the Stray Cats and the Beatles. It's gotta have a beat -- no slow stuff allowed."
What type of things do you enjoy reading in your spare time?
"I love biographies, especially of larger-than-life leaders," Klausner said. "I'm reading Andrew Jackson's biography right now, and after reading about a dozen on George Washington last year, I'm preparing to start on a new script about him."
