Resident gets three years, fine for producing meth

A Streetsboro man has been sentenced to three years in prison and fined $5,000 for possessing chemicals used to make methamphetamine in Kent in May 2012, while a co-defendant recently was sentenced to court-ordered drug treatment and probation.

Gregory D. Moors, 28, of Streetsboro, was sentenced recently by Portage County Common Pleas Judge Laurie Pittman. He pleaded guilty in December to illegal assembly or possession of chemicals for the manufacture of drugs, a third-degree felony.

Pittman gave Moors the maximum prison term and credited him with 178 days served in the Portage County jail awaiting trial, according to court records. His driver's license was suspended for three years.

Moors and co-defendant Chelsi M. McLaughlin, 19, also of Streetsboro, were indicted on six felony charges each in August 2012 based on a Kent Police Department investigation. They allegedly made and possessed methamphetamine with the intent to sell it in the 700 block of Silver Meadows Boulevard in Kent on May 31, 2012, according to their joint indictment.

McLaughlin pleaded guilty to illegal assembly or possession of chemicals for the manufacture of drugs, a third-degree felony, on in September 2012. Pittman sentenced her to five years probation and ordered her to attend the Northeast Ohio Community Alternative Program in Warren to receive drug treatment.

McLaughlin also was ordered to pay a $300 fine, attend two addiction recovery meetings per week for two years, find a full-time job within a year, keep it throughout probation and have no contact with Moors. Her driver's license also was suspended for one year with privileges for probation and counseling appointments, work and addiction recovery meetings, according to Pittman's orders.
