Streetsboro's Princess Ball takes girls, dads 'Somewhere Over the Rainbow'

A sold-out crowd of 160 girls and their fathers packed the Rusty Nail Restaurant Feb. 15, which took on a decidedly emerald glow during the Streetsboro Parks & Recreation Department's "Somewhere Over the Rainbow" Princess Ball.

After dining on Wicked Witch of the West Braised Beef Tips, Auntie Em's Mac 'N Cheese, Scarecrow Salad and more, the dance floor opened up, and a crowd of girls stormed it, followed shortly after that by their fathers.

Senior Services Director Katie Mathies and Andrea Parma-Schaefer, a programmer for the parks and recreation department, provided handmade treats, and Erin Reuter baked cupcakes for the occasion.

Providing the music for the evening was James Hines of AudioExtremes, who said he enjoys this type of event.

"The energy level of this particular demographic is unequaled, so I'm really excited to get to the dancing portion of the evening," he said shortly before dinner.

Girls and their fathers also posed for and will receive complimentary photos as memorabilia of the big night.

This was the first time in several years the event has taken place somewhere other than the gym at City Hall.
