Starbucks coffee house likely coming to Streetsboro

Streetsboro -- A Starbucks coffee shop is likely to fill one unit of a new retail plaza at the corner of Singletary Drive and Route 14, according to Mayor Glenn Broska.

Woodmont Co. plans to build a building around 6,100 square feet in size right next to the Palms Motel. The plaza would be located on the right as motorists turn on to Singletary Drive, according to plans.

The site plan for the four-unit building still requires approval by the Streetsboro Planning & Zoning Commission, according to Planning and Zoning Director John Cieszkowski.

According to Broska, the developer, Woodmont Co., has found a strong first tenant.

"With Starbucks as an anchor, the other spots won't stay vacant very long," he said, adding Woodmont has Starbucks under contract.

Woodmont and Starbucks officials did not respond to phone calls seek confirmation and comment.

No other potential tenants have been announced by the city or developer.

According to Cieszkowski, the Starbucks unit would consume 1,700 square feet and include about 24 seats. The other units would be 2,000 square feet, 1,206 square feet, and 2,000 square feet, he added.

The plaza is located on Lot 6 of the Woodmont development, but City Council unanimously approved splitting the lot into three irregular parcels at its March 11 meeting, according to Cieszkowski.

The plaza would be located on the sublot closest to Singletary Drive.

The Streetsboro Planning & Zoning Commission tabled the site plan because some elements of the plan were missing and demand clarification, said Cieszkowski.

Broska said he hopes the plaza's nearest potential neighbor, the Palms Motel building, which has been closed for several years, is gone soon.

According to Broska, the city has tried to negotiate with the owners of the former motel, but he is running low on patience.

"You try to work with people as much as you can, but it's getting to the point where we're going to try to see if we can force their hand," he said.
