Streetsboro -- The Streetsboro Athletic Hall of Fame will induct eight new members at halftime of the Oct. 4 home football game against Mogadore.
The eight inductees are:
• John Glinatsis, administrator (posthumous).
• Dick Grove, cross country coach (posthumous).
• Roland Taggert, community volunteer (posthumous).
• Bob Long, staff member (announcer for football, basketball and soccer for more 30 years).
• Rich Scalia, student athlete, football, class of 1997.
• Bob Walters, student athlete, wrestling, class of 1978.
• Bob Scheall, student athlete, wrestling, class of 1984.
• Dale Mager, student athlete, football, basketball and track, class of 1968.
"We are extremely proud to recognize this group of inductees," Athletic Administrator Randy Tevepaugh said. "They represent some of the best student-athletes, administrators coaches and volunteers that have been a part of the Streetsboro school district. Their character, integrity and contributions uniquely qualify them for this prestigious award."
The inductees are chosen by the district's Athletic Hall of Fame Committee, which consists of one school board member, one community member, a booster representative, a current administrator, a retired administrator and the athletic administrator.
The inaugural class was inducted in 2011. It includes Butch Inghram, Joe Blasiole, Jim Boardwine, Joe Boardwine, John Purcell, Gary Huber and Gay Shope.
"When I presented the proposal to begin an athletic hall of fame, I received a great deal support from our superintendent and our School Board to implement the program," Tevepaugh said.
"The number of inductees is restricted in each category, and the qualifications for induction are very stringent to maintain a high level integrity," Tevepaugh added.
Some of the qualifications include:
An athlete must wait a minimum of 10 years from the time of his/her graduation from Streetsboro High School. A coach must have been a head coach for a minimum of 10 years. No more than eight individuals and/or teams will be elected in any one year with a maximum of four student athletes, two coaches, two community member/volunteers and one team.
Nominations for the next hall of fame class can be emailed to Streetsboro High School Athletic Administrator Randy Tevepaugh at email@example.com or mailed to Tevepaugh at Streetsboro High School, 1900 Annalane Drive, Streetsboro 44241.
