Streetsboro -- City Council at-large candidate Sandy Smith Fischer informed the Portage County Board of Elections Sept. 28 that she is withdrawing from the November election, according to the Board of Elections.
In a letter to the Board of Elections, Smith Fischer wrote that she withdrew because, if elected, she would not be able to attend Monday night Council meetings through August 2014. She said the scheduling problem is related to her duties with the Streetsboro City Schools, where she works as an intervention specialist.
"I sincerely thank the patrons of Streetsboro who signed my petitions and vowed their support," she wrote.
Remaining at-large Council candidates in the race include incumbent Council President Tim Claypoole and candidates Jeff Allen, Steve Michniak and Brett McClafferty.
Incumbent at-large Council members Chuck Kocisko and Julie Sanders previously announced they are not seeking re-election.
