Streetsboro -- Andrew Lesak was unanimously elected by his peers Jan. 9 as Streetsboro Board of Education president, while Brian Violi was picked as vice president.
Lesak was appointed to the Board in September of 2007 to fill a vacancy. In November 2009, he was elected to his first four-year term on the Board, and he was re-elected last November. He was previously elected Board president in 2011. He is the fiscal integrity liaison between the Board and administration and also serves as the Board's official representative on the Streetsboro City Schools Educational Foundation.
"I am honored to be elected Board president again and look forward to an exciting year as we continue moving forward on our new facilities project," said Lesak, referring to the project to upgrade the school buildings in the district.
"Another challenge our district faces is transitioning our teaching staff to the Common Core, a new set of expectations about what students should know in math and English," Lesak said. "I believe our staff needs as much training as possible to assist them during the transition so they can maximize the results with our students."
Violi was first elected to the Board of Education in November 2007, and served a four-year term that ended in December of 2011. He returned to the Board in July 2013 to fill a vacancy and was elected to a four-year term last November.
