Kids Making a Difference is sponsored by Clear Vision and facilitated by Streetsboro Community PTA.

Streetsboro sixth-graders, Mykerra Dotson and Krys Riley-Richardson have been chosen for recognition by the "Kids Making a Difference" program.

Mykerra Dotson is a stand-out at Henry Defer Intermediate School for her love of helping others -- especially the younger students. She was nominated by teachers Kalindi Stockton and Michelle Kravetz. Every Friday, Mykerra volunteers in a fourth-grade classroom. She helps the teacher grade and sort papers, as well as helping students with their school work. Mykerra is involved in several extracurricular activities including Drama Club in which she earned the role of the evil step sister in the school's production of "Twinderella." She is a cheerleader for Streetsboro, and in her spare time she enjoys playing video games. Mykerra, who wants to be a lawyer when she grows up, likes learning about history, and her favorite subjects are science and social studies. When asked what she would like to say to our community, she responded, "Don't dwell on your past. Always look forward."

She has also learned that giving of yourself is very rewarding, a wonderful vision for someone so young.

Krys Riley- Richardson also was nominated by his sixth-grade teachers for making a difference at Henry Defer Intermediate School. Krys is the president of the student council. The student council supports many charitable organizations, such as animal shelters, Ronald McDonald House and some international charities. Krys is excited to serve in this capacity and likes to see his efforts benefiting others. Krys is a big help at home and around his neighborhood, as well. He feels especially rewarded by helping his younger brother whom he says is his best friend. Krys has played football for Streetsboro since he moved here three years ago and has taken on a leadership role with his team. He is very encouraging to all the other players and helps them both physically and emotionally. Krys' mother is very proud of him.

"Krys is awesome," she said. "He is the definition of what a 12-year-old boy should be. I'm his biggest fan."

When asked what he would like to say to the community, his response was, "God is good. Always be honest and truthful."

Thank you, Mykerra and Krys, for your outstanding character and selflessness. Your positive role in our community is appreciated.
