The Collection Auto Group has completed the purchase of Classic Nissan in Streetsboro, according to Bernie Moreno, president of The Collection Auto Group.
The sale closed April 1, he said, and the auto group has plans to purchase Streetsboro’s Classic Kia, as well. The closing date for that sale is May 1.
“We’re really excited to be there and grow in Streetsboro,” he said. “It’s a great opportunity for us. Volkswagen is going into Streetsboro, too. We prefer to have a cluster of dealerships together from a management perspective.”
Jim Brown, president of Classic Auto Group, was not immediately available for comment.
Moreno declined to comment on the details of the sale, but said he plans, for the most part, to hire current employees of Classic Auto Group.
“We retained virtually all the key members,” he said. “The only ones we didn’t retain are the ones who wanted to stay with Classic. We had no problem with them choosing whether they wanted to stay with Classic or join our company.”
The Collection Auto Group has 30 employees currently at Nissan and plans to add about 15 more. Moreno said he anticipates building up the inventory to about 450 cars.
“I think we’ve purchased right around 150 cars, and we’ll about triple that inventory,” he said. “You will see a lot of Nissans on that lot.”
Moreno said having a Nissan dealership in Streetsboro will complement The Collection Auto Group’s current Nissan dealership on the opposite end of Interstate 480 in Middleburg Heights.
Moreno said the market in Northeast Ohio for Kia is strong, and it’s a brand he’s got experience with. He said he sold Kias in the 1990s in an area just north of Boston.
“I’m not really new to Kia; I’m just new to Kia in this market,” he said.
He said he doesn’t plan any renovations at either of the existing facilities.
“Classic did a great job building two great buildings,” he said.
The Collection Auto Group will appear before the Streetsboro Planning & Zoning Commission April 8 seeking site plan amendment allowing construction of a new Volkwagen dealership in front of Shady Lake Apartments. The current Hudson Volkswagen dealership would close when the Streetsboro dealership opens, said Moreno.
He said he’s planning a ground breaking for the Volkswagen dealership later this month.
The Planning & Zoning Commission will meet at 7 p.m. April 8 at City Hall, 9184 Route 43.
