Streetsboro -- Lindsay Zenker, dean of students at Henry Defer Intermediate School, will become the school's assistant principal Aug. 1.
Zenker will still be a part-time employee, and her salary will remain at $31,000 a year, according to Superintendent Michael Daulbaugh.
Zenker's new position was unanimously approved May 8 by the Streetsboro Board of Education. She received a 2-year contract that will extend from Aug. 1, 2014 to July 31, 2016.
With Ohio school regulations requiring more evaluations of teachers by administrators, Zenker will be able to fill a need at the school.
"Changing her title to assistant principal, this will help us with our evaluation process," Daulbaugh said. "The dean of students [position] did not have quite the same authority. She actually will have the authority of an assistant principal. She holds the proper certification to be an assistant principal."
Zenker was the school's dean of students the last three years. She said that position was similar to a principal, and she was in charge of discipline at the school.
She was paid for a half day of work, arriving in the late morning each school day and working through the end of the school day.
The school's principal is Bill Basel.
The hiring of Beth Kinder as transportation supervisor May 8 was unanimously approved by the Board of Education. She has been serving as interim transportation supervisor for the last 18 months.
"We are removing the tag of 'interim,'" Daulbaugh said.
Kinder received a 2-year contract, extending from Aug. 1, 2014 to July 31, 2016. Her annual salary is $43,241, according to Treasurer Catherine Rouse.
"She has really been the transportation supervisor for the last 18 months," School Board Vice President Brian Violi said.
