'Thunder in the Boro' motorcycle rally set for June 28 in Streetsboro

Streetsboro -- Fred Mathis, head of Boro Dawgs, a Streetsboro-based Cleveland Browns fan club, hopes "Thunder in the Boro," a motorcycle rally he's planning, will be the biggest one ever in Portage County.

It will be June 28 at Chuggers Bar and Grill, 9244 Market Square Drive in Streetsboro, where a 2014 Harley Davidson Street Glide motorcycle worth $25,000 will be raffled off at 6 p.m.

Proceeds from the event will go to Streetsboro Family Days, which will give the money to Sonny Geraci, he said. Geraci has been recovering for about two years from an aneurysm, and the funds are to be used to help pay his medical costs.

The poker run motorcycle rally begins at Chuggers at 9 a.m. It will proceed to Carlton Harley-Davidson, 11771 Route 44, Mantua; to Zeppe's Pizza, 11110 Kinsman Road, Newbury; to Faces Lounge, 13 W. Broad St., Newton Falls; to the Big Dog Saloon, 432 W. Highland Ave., Ravenna;

and back to Chugger's.

Mathis said he would like the last bike out at 11 a.m. and the last one back at 3:30 p.m. All vehicles are welcome.

The poker run is open to motorcycles, cars, drag cars, hot rods, art rods, trucks, semi-trucks, antique vehicles, racers, tractors and bicycles. Registration for the poker run starts at 9 a.m. June 28. For tickets,

Mathis said he's expecting more than 2,000 people to attend from at least seven states, and about 15 vendors have signed up so far. There will be food and alcohol on sale.

"It's an all-day event," he said. "We're trying to make it fun."

The fee is $20 to enter a car or motorcycle in a vehicle show, which takes place June 28 at Chuggers. The price includes one raffle ticket for the Harley Davidson motorcycle plus trophies awarded to 15 "top of show" winners, which will be determined by judges. Registration for the car show starts at 10:30 a.m.

Raffle tickets are $10 each. There will be 10 cash drawings for $1,000 in cash prizes. Winners need not be present.

There will be musical entertainment throughout the day. The schedule includes DJ Jockey Joe from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.; Forceful Entry from 2 to 3:30 p.m.; School Girl Crush from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m.; awards and winners announced from 5:30 to 6 p.m.; the Michael Weber Show from 6:30 to 8 p.m.; and Fracture from 8:30 to 11 p.m.

Inside Chuggers, Adam X will perform from 10 p.m. to 2 a.m.

Mathis said deals are available at hotels rooms within walking distance when requested. Mathis is being assisted by Bill Edwards and Jeff Long. The event is sponsored by the Boro Dawgs and supported by Thunder Roads Ohio magazine and Carlton Harley-Davidson.
