Streetsboro -- Local cowboys and cowgirls looking for a new watering hole can now two-step down to Mustang Salliz, which opened Dec. 28, 2007, at Streetsboro Plaza off of Route 303.

The club, located in the former Streetsboro Bowling site in the Streetsboro Plaza, opens Wednesdays and Thursdays at 7 p.m. and Friday and Saturdays at 6 p.m. and closes at 2:30 a.m.

Owner Scott Thierfelder, who's a partner in the Knockout Bar franchise and owns several other clubs, said the idea behind Mustang Salliz should fill a void in the area's country bar scene since the Boot Scoot'n Saloon in Cuyahoga Falls closed more than five years ago.

The decision to hitch Mustang Salliz' post in Streetsboro comes more from finding the right building to house the club in Streetsboro Plaza with a good rate to lease than the city's access to freeways, according to Thierfelder.

"It just worked out that we are right off of four major area highways," he said.

Friday and Saturday nights are the busiest at the club, according to Thierfelder, with early estimates of the opening weekend bringing in around 1,600 people at the club Dec. 28 and around 1,200 on Dec. 29.

The weekends feature country music exclusively with a house band, Calibur, that Thierfelder said features band members who have all either played in Nashville or worked as studio bands. He said he also hopes to book national touring bands at the club, but no dates have been set.

A patron walking into the club will first see an open area as customers walk in with tables and chairs for their use. On the right side of the club, a stage for the house or touring bands is available with a dance floor. A mechanical bull for patrons to ride is placed back of the establishment, next to the bar.

While Salliz may be packed on the weekends, Thierfelder said the club is working on having special events on their "off-nights." He said Wednesdays will feature karaoke and Guitar Hero contests and Thursday will be "College ID Nights," which will be the only evening the club will not exclusively feature country music.

"There will be country, but we'll also have '80s and more dance songs, along with other kinds of music that college students will like," he said.

Thierfelder said he is already working on partnerships for the club.

Also, he said Akron-based WQMX 94.9 FM is planning to do broadcast live from the club on Saturdays.

The club is also planning to be rented out for a mixed-martial arts competition, made popular by the Ultimate Fighting Championship League, in February, according to Thierfelder. He said the club is just being rented for the event, and he is not one of the people putting the event together.
