Police charge 'guest' at hotel with breaking and entering

Streetsboro -- The owner of a Route 14 hotel reported Dec. 3 he had been having problems with a man breaking into hotel rooms and staying in them.

According to the report, the owner caught the man in the afternoon, who he recognized from previous similar incidents, in a room that had been vacant for 14 days. The owner told police the man yelled at him at first, but then fled when he was told that police had been called.

Police said they arrested the man and charged him with breaking and entering. The man was taken to Portage County Jail for additional outstanding warrants, according to the report.

Domestic violence

Dec. 4. Man charged: A resident reported the father of her child allegedly assaulted her in a vacant parking lot in the city earlier in the day.

According to the report, the resident met the man in the parking lot and got into a verbal altercation with him. The resident told police the man then allegedly grabbed her by the throat and threw her to the ground.

Police said paramedics were called to the police station to treat the resident at the scene, who was not taken to a hospital, and she was found to have an abrasion on the back of her head that was bleeding.

The man was charged with domestic violence and a warrant has been issued for his arrest, according to the report.

Fraud

Dec. 31. Drug store reports fake prescription: A Route 43 drug store manager reported receiving a forged prescription for Vicodin.

According to the report, a male had dropped off the prescription and left the store, but before the prescription was filled, the doctor's office reported that it was forged.

Police said the man did not return to pick up the prescription and a warrant for forging a prescription was filed.

Theft

Dec. 5. Vehicle stolen behind business: An employee of a Route 14 business reported his vehicle, worth an undisclosed amount, was stolen from behind the building during the afternoon.

According to the report, the vehicle, worth an undisclosed amount, was left with doors unlocked and with the keys inside while the employee made a stop in the business. The employee told police he was inside for a half hour; when he returned, he found the vehicle missing.

Police said the vehicle has been reported as stolen in a national database. There are no suspects at this time.

Dec. 6. Woman charged with theft: A loss prevention officer at a Singletary Drive business reported catching an alleged shoplifter in the evening.

According to the report, the woman had tried to switch merchandise tags on items worth $709 with tags from another store.

Police said the woman was charged with theft and taken to Portage County Jail.
