Cigarettes, cash stolen from unlocked garage, vehicles

Streetsboro -- A Lido Lane resident reported Jan. 10 someone broke into two vehicles left unlocked in a garage during the previous evening and stole $144 in cash.

According to the report, the garage door was left unlocked and the suspect rummaged through cabinets, a freezer and the vehicles. Police said the suspect also stole a pack of cigarettes in a vehicle.

Police said the incident is under investigation.

Disorderly conduct

Jan. 9. Man charged with menacing, disorderly conduct: Residents on William Henry Drive reported a man was walking down the street in the afternoon and was frequently falling down.

According to the report, the man was found arguing with a resident and allegedly making threatening comments when police arrived.

Police said the man was charged with menacing and disorderly conduct, then taken to Portage County Justice Center.

Intoxicated driving

Jan. 11. Driver charged with intoxicated driving: A possible intoxicated motorist was reported on Route 303, and an officer stopped a vehicle matching the description at the Superior Avenue intersection with Route 303.

According to the report, the officer pulled over the driver for several marked lane violations and noticed signs of intoxication from the driver. Police said the driver failed a field sobriety test and refused to take a breath test.

The driver was charged with operating a vehicle while intoxicated and marked lane violations. She was released to her sister at the police station, according to the report.

Drug possession

Jan. 9. Driver, passenger charged with drug possession: An officer responded to Elliman Road to investigate a suspicious vehicle parked along the street after midnight.

According to the report, the officer found the driver and passenger in the vehicle with a bag of suspect marijuana and charged them with possession of drugs.

Police said the suspects were released at the scene.

Other police news

Jan. 12. Attempted vehicle theft: A Route 14 business reported one of its company trucks was broken into between Dec. 30 and Jan. 12, indicating signs someone was trying to steal it.

According to the report, the steering column was damaged in the vehicle, showing signs someone was trying to strip it to start the ignition. Police said the passenger side door lock, which is how the suspect gained entry, and the driver's door handle were also damaged, but did not release a damage cost.

Police said there are no suspects at this time.
