Streetsboro -- A Ranch Road resident reported March 18 at the police station that he was struck in the arm by a vehicle, causing a minor injury the previous afternoon. According to the report, the man said he was standing by the mailboxes at his apartment when a vehicle jumped the side of the road and hit his arm. The man told police he only has a description of the vehicle and was unable to obtain the license plate number. Police said they checked the area for the vehicle, but were unable to find any matching the description. Fraud March 21. Manager reports bad checks at business: A manager at a Route 43 store reported receiving two bad checks, totaling $733, over the past few months. According to the report, a woman cashed a check for $433 in February, but the check was returned for having insufficient funds. Police said the woman was sent a letter regarding the incident, but had not responded. Police charged the woman with passing a bad check. She was sent a court summons in the mail. A $300 check written to the store by a business in January also was returned for due to insufficient funds. The store manager told police that he had contacted the business and learned a subcontractor had written the check in the business's name. The business had pledged to pay back the funds, according to police reports. The manager did not sign charges, but wanted a report on file in case the business does not repay the $300, according to the report. Animal cruelty March 22. Dog left outside in snow: At around 2:30 a.m., an anonymous person reported a dog was left outside while it was snowing without shelter or food. According to police reports, an officer found the dog tied up in the backyard without any shelter or food while the owner was not home. The homeowner was charged with animal cruelty. Disorderly conduct March 17. Woman given warning: A man reported that his brother's ex-girlfriend was knocking on the door of his Wellman Road home and refused to leave. According to the report, the woman was standing in the road in front the home and showed signs of intoxication. The woman told police she had done nothing wrong. She was walked back to her home by a friend. Police advised the woman she could be charged with disorderly conduct if she returns to the home intoxicated again. No further police action was taken. Operating a vehicle under the influence March 18. Man charged with OVI: An officer stopped a driver on Route 43 for marked lane and speeding violations after midnight and noticed signs of intoxication. According to the report, the driver failed a field sobriety test and was later found to have a blood-alcohol level of .115. Police said the driver was charged with marked lane violations, speeding and operating a vehicle while intoxicated. The driver was released at the police station to a friend, according to the report. Other police news March 21. Man feels threatened by driver: A Frost Road resident reported feeling threatened by a truck driver. The resident reported he honked his horn at the truck when he was trying to exit his driveway and the truck driver allegedly confronted him at a stop sign while holding a wooden tool. Police spoke with the truck driver, who said he lives on Frost Road. The truck driver alleged the resident often harasses him by cursing and making rude gestures, according to police reports. The truck driver told police he "got sick" of the resident's behavior and confronted him at the stop sign. Police warned the truck driver he could be charged for taking a potential weapon to a confrontation. Both residents were told to not bother the other, according to police.
