Streetsboro -- A Route 14 church reported March 26 that $1,233 was missing from a safe used to hold bingo funds. It had been two weeks since the safe had been opened when the pastor learned the money was gone, according to Police Chief Richard Taiclet. The church's pastor told police he had tried to take care of the matter internally, but reported the incident to police a few days later when no progress was made. Taiclet said the incident is under investigation. Fraud March 27. Credit card used without permission: A Garnet Way resident reported her credit card was used without her permission. According to the report, the card was used to make a $2,680 purchase from a store in Spain. The resident told police her bank would conduct an investigation and would refund the charges. Theft March 20. Prescription drugs stolen: A man reported two prescription drug bottles were stolen from him while staying overnight at a Russell Drive apartment. According to the report, the medication, worth an undisclosed amount, were taken off a television in the living room and the front door appeared to be open with no damage. March 26: Man charged with stealing water: A city worker reported catching a man filling water tanks from a fire hydrant on Jefferson Street during the evening. According to the report, the man said he was contracted by the county sanitation department and had been told that he could use water from the hydrant. Police said they spoke to the county department and was informed that they never gave permission to a man to get water from the hydrant. The man was charged with theft, according to the report. Breaking and entering March 28. Bedrooms ransacked: A Route 43 resident reported two bedrooms in her home were "ransacked" while she was away during the day. According to the report, the resident said nothing appeared to be missing from the rooms and she did not know who had entered her home or how. Police said they took photographs of the rooms and told the resident to call them if she realizes later anything is lost. There are no suspects at this time. Operating a vehicle while intoxicated March 28. Motorist charged with OVI: A patrol officer noticed a vehicle commit marked lane violations along Route 303 during the evening and pulled the driver over. According to the report, the driver showed signs of intoxication and failed a field sobriety test. Police said the driver was later found to have a blood-alcohol level of .153. The driver was charged with operating a vehicle while intoxicated and marked lane violations. The motorist was released to a relative at the police station. Other police news March 28. Driver charged with disobeying traffic sign: An officer on patrol saw a semitrailer in a ditch along Aurora-Hudson Road at around 2 a.m. According to the report, the driver said he had become "lost" and got stuck when he tried to turn around. Police said the truck was towed from the ditch, and the driver was informed that he drove on a street with posted "No Thru Trucks" signs. The driver was charged with disobeying a traffic sign.
