Senior board meeting'

The Streetsboro Senior Citizens Foundation's board of trustees will meet May 8 at 12:15 p.m. at the Streetsboro Senior Center. All foundation members are welcome.

Nail clinics with
Dr. Windy Cole

Call the senior center at 330-626-2398 by May 16 to make an appointment for the May 20 nail clinic offered by Dr. Windy Cole.

Senior Games

Seniors will demonstrate their gamesmanship at Senior Games Day VII in a variety of competitions, including corn hole, billiards, ping pong, line and square dancing, chair volleyball, and card and board games.

The event will take place May 22 at 9:30 a.m. The event, including lunch which will be supplied by the fire department, is free.

RSVP by calling 330-626-2398 by May 15.

Free blood pressure checkups

Free blood pressure check ups are offered every first Tuesday of the month at the Streetsboro Senior Center 9:30 to 10 a.m., courtesy of Portage County Visiting Nurse Service & Hospice. No appointment is necessary.

Line dancing

Country line dancing takes place at the senior center every Wednesday from 10 to 11 a.m. Seniors get a chance move around, learn some new dance steps, and meet people all at once. No appointment is necessary.

Golden Getaway Seniors

Golden Getaway Seniors will be venturing out on the third Wednesday of each month -- May 21 next month -- around 12:30 p.m. from the senior center. This is a group which meets to enjoy one another's company at an area restaurant. Dates are subject to change. RSVP by May 19 to the senior center at 330-626-2398 to attend the May 21 lunch.

Square dancing

Square dancing takes place each Monday and Friday from 11 a.m. to noon. Come to dance or watch.

Chair volleyball

Chair volleyball players take to the court each Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 11 a.m. to noon. Come share in the fun, simple game.

Strengthen and tone those muscles

Senior Strength and Tone - Geri-Fit is an exercise class offered by Body Sculpting by Exterior Designs. Seniors can register for the program in single classes ($3 each) or eight-class sessions ($12). Sessions begin every four weeks, provided there are enough participants.

The classes meet Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10 to 10:45 a.m.

Participants use stretch bands and weights to increase flexibility and strength. Chris Klemm is the instructor. Bring a water bottle and a large towel.

'Recommended Reads'

Join Pierce-Streetsboro Branch Library Head Librarian Michelle Dillon for "Recommended Reads" May 27 at noon. Her topic of discussion will be "Wetlands and the Watershed." Jennifer White from the Portage County Soil and Water District office will help discuss the topic.

Lunch is included. RSVP by May 20 by calling 330-626-2398.

Senior center closed May 12

The Streetsboro Senior Center will be closed May 12 when the Portage County Senior Celebration of Achievement takes place and Memorial Day, May 26.

Looking for lawn help?

Each year, the senior center receives calls from senior citizens looking for lawn care companies or volunteers to maintain their lawns during the summer.

While the senior center doesn't maintain a list of such volunteers, director Elaine VanHoose suggests checking at the schools and local churches to see whether any student groups exist which may perform the function.

Senior foundation
at Family Days

Streetsboro Family Days takes place July 31 to Aug. 3 this year, and the Streetsboro Senior Foundation is seeking volunteers to donate time volunteering at the foundation's table at the annual festival.

Sign up for Aeros games

Seniors interested in attending Akron Aeros' home games should sign up at the senior center.

Tickets for $3 and $7 tickets are available for games on May 25, May 30, June 13, June 27, July 13, July 25, Aug. 1, and Aug. 15.

The games take place at Canal Park, the Aeros' home field, on South Main Street in Akron. Only 10 tickets are available per game, so sign up soon.
