Streetsboro -- A man staying in a hotel in the city was charged with disorderly conduct April 20 after police said he falsely claimed a van had run over his feet at a Route 14 restaurant. According to the report, an officer responded to a report of a disturbance at the restaurant at 1 a.m. and found a man lying in the middle of the drive-through lane, preventing a van from reaching the window. The man told police he was walking to a gas station to "buy alcohol" when the van ran over his feet in the restaurant parking lot. Police said the man showed signs of intoxication and was wearing sandals, revealing no apparent injury to his feet. The driver of the van told police that the man had approached his vehicle while he was in the drive-through lane and said that if he did not give him "$20 for alcohol" he was going to tell the police the van had hit him. The man then began asking police when the driver would "pay him $20 for alcohol" and said he would not return to his hotel until he was able to buy some. Police said they warned the man to calm down, but he refused. The man was charged with disorderly conduct and taken to Portage County Jail, according to the report. Theft April 16. Vehicle found in apartment parking lot: Officers responded to a report from Macedonia Police that a vehicle reported missing by a resident in their city may be at a Route 14 apartment complex in Streetsboro. According to the report, the vehicle, worth an undisclosed amount, was identified in the parking lot of the apartment complex, but the apartment resident who neighbors said was driving the vehicle was not present when police arrived. Police said they later contacted the man, who admitted taking the vehicle without permission. The man was charged with theft of a vehicle and was turned over to Macedonia Police. The vehicle was returned to the owner with no damage reported. April 17. Items stolen from vehicle: A Troy Drive resident reported that two items worth $672 were stolen from his vehicle during the evening. According to the report, the resident accidentally left his vehicle doors unlocked after arriving home at 9:30 p.m. and noticed an MP3 player and a GPS unit were gone when he at 5 a.m. the next morning. Police said there are no suspects at this time. Operating a vehicle while intoxicated April 18. Motorist charged with OVI, falsification: An officer pulled over a vehicle for speeding on Route 43 during the evening at around 11 30 p.m. According to the report, the driver did not have a driver's license on him and the name the driver gave the officer did not match the picture on record. A passenger in the vehicle told police that the driver was the man he claimed to be, but the driver failed a field sobriety test and was taken to the police station. Officers at the police station found the driver had given his brother's name and had a suspended driver's license, according to the report. Police said the driver was found to have a blood alcohol level of .099 and was charged with operating a vehicle while intoxicated, speeding, falsification, and driving under a suspension. The passenger also was charged with obstructing official police business. Both were taken home by an officer.
