Rockets win opener of doubleheaderApril 30, 2008
The host Streetsboro baseball team earned a split against Portage Trail Conference rival Crestwood April 25. The Rockets won an 8-3 decision in the first game but lost a 5-2 decision in the second game. In the opener, the Rockets (8-7) broke a 3-3 tie with a run in the bottom of the fifth, then broke the game open with four runs in the sixth inning. Kevin Miller ripped a home run and two singles and Ryan Stainbrook had three hits, including a double, to lead Streetsboro. Dave Czerny had two singles for Crestwood (8-7). Dan Kopcak (1-2) got the win on the mound. The Rockets finished with eight hits and one error and Crestwood had five hits and one error. In the second game, Jared Monroe pitched a complete-game four-hitter and Eric Stuart slammed a home run to led Crestwood. Scott Ashburn had a double and Brandon Violi had a single for the Rockets. Crestwood scored three runs in the fifth to take a 4-0 lead. Streetsboro had four hits and one error and the Red Devils had six hits and no errors. The visiting Rockets posted an 8-6 win over PTC County Division rival Mogadore April 22. Jeff Roach, who entered the game in the sixth, got the win.
