Girls finish 2nd at Clipper Meet

The Streetsboro girls track and field team finished second with 94 points at the 10-team Clipper Invitational May 10 at Columbiana High School.

East Palestine won with 140 points and Columbiana finished third (81).

Tiara Bivins led the Rockets with a meet-leading 22.5 points. She won the 100-meter dash with a time of 12.7 seconds, the 200 (26.4) and joined Dare Gleason, Amanda Cobourn and Ashley Lawson on the winning 400 relay team (52.9).

Bivins set meet and stadium records in the 100 and 200 races. The previous meet records were owned by Streetsboro graduate Jessica Scott in 2005 and Malvern's Jessica Alger in 2007 (13.0). Steubenville Catholic Central's Margaret Schreck had the stadium record (12.8) in 2007.

Bivins also broke Scott's meet-record and stadium-record clocking of 26.8 in the 200. Scott set the record in 2007.

The Rockets' 1,600 (second, 4:40.1), 800 (third, 1:55.6) and 3,200 (fourth, 11:35.5) relays also placed.

Others who finished in the top six for Streetsboro were the following:

100 hurdles: Jordan Genovese, fifth, 18.9

100: Cobourn, fifth, 14.1

1,600: Rachel Oravec, fifth, 6:15.8; and Alex Lesak, sixth, 6:17.9

300 hurdles: Kaitlin Twigger, fifth, 56.9; and Genovese, sixth, 57.3

200: Gleason, second, 27.6

3,200: Oravec, fourth, 13:47; and Gaby Ryczek, sixth, 14:01.9

Discus: Kellie Radic, second, 106 feet, 9 inches

Shot put: Kayla Brown, fourth, 31-4.5; and Radic, sixth, 28-2

High jump: Kelsey Cianci, third, 4-8

Long jump: Emma Krumlauf, fourth, 14-.5

On May 6, the Rockets earned a 70-58 victory over Portage Trail Conference County Division rival Rootstown at Ravenna Stadium.

Bivins led Streetsboro with four wins. She triumphed in the long jump (14-0), the 100 (12.9) and the 200 (27.0).

She also joined Tiffany Yanualitis, Gleason and Lawson on the winning 400 relay team (52.2).

The following Rockets placed in the top three:

High jump: Katie Shlegel, third

Shot put: Brown, second

Discus: Radic, second

100 hurdles: Genovese, second

100: Cobourn, second; and Larissa Bradford, third

800 relay: Cobourn, Gleason Twigger and Lawson, first, 1:54.7

1,600: Oravec, second; and Lesak, third

400: Yanulaitis, first, 1:07.7; Megan Humphrey, second; and Shelly Johnson, third

300 hurdles: Twigger, third

800: Gaby Ryczek, second; and Lesak, third

200: Gleason, second; and Lawson, third

3,200: Rachel Oravec, first, 13:38; Amanda Groff, second; and Linsey Hawkins, third

The Portage Trail Conference Meet is scheduled to take place May 15. The field events are set to begin at 4 p.m. and the running events follow at 4:30 p.m.

The PTC Meet is scheduled to resume at Ravenna Stadium. The action is slated to begin at 10 a.m.
