Dix Communications to invest more in Internet; Andrew Dix to head Web division of newspaper chain

Dix Communications, the parent company of Record Publishing Co., LLC, which publishes the Record-Courier and 10 weekly newspapers in Portage, Summit, and Cuyahoga counties including The Gateway News, announced the promotion of Andrew R. Dix to president of corporate Web site development.

It also announced that Harry Newman, currently assistant general manager of the weekly division of Record Publishing Co., would succeed Dix as marketing director of Record Publishing Co., overseeing advertising for both the daily newspaper and the weekly division newspapers.

Rich Sekella, currently general manager of Record Publishing Co., will retain that title, but in his new responsibilities will become more engaged with both the daily and weekly divisions.

David Dix, president of Record Publishing Co., will continue in his role as publisher.

Corporate chairman G.C. Dix, in announcing the changes, said the corporation intends to step up its investments in new product development utilizing the Internet.

"Publishing to our Web sites is an exciting complement to our printed products. As this area grows, so does the time devoted to managing its growth," he said.

"Andrew Dix has been managing our company-wide Web efforts; but now to properly serve the growth in our Web audiences and Web offerings, we need his management of this area in a full-time capacity. We hope this will help us move ahead more quickly in this area of our business."

Andrew Dix will serve as a vice president of Record Publishing Co. and will continue serving in community organizations.

The Web development group operates from the Kent Record-Courier office.

The changes went into effect June 1.
