by Miles Jung-Kilbreath Reporter Streetsboro -- The master plan commission was set to get to work on the city's master plan during a meeting July 29. Six firms sent in proposals to update the city's zoning master plan, and the commission is charged with choosing a firm to create a plan for the future of the city, said Mayor Tom Wagner. "We are currently doing an in-house review of all proposals," Planning Director Jeff Pritchard said in a July 25 interview. Details of the meeting were unavailable by press time. The city's master plan is meant to provide a blueprint for future development and land use planning. The six firms that submitted proposals by the July 25 deadline include: MSI in Columbus; Jacobs Engineering in Cincinnati; Willams Creek Consulting in Indianapolis, Ind., Bird Houlk Collaborative in Gahanna; ACP in Columbus; and Dover, Kohl and Partners from Coral Gables, Fla. The master plan commission was created by a charter amendment approved by voters last fall. The members of the commission include: Wagner, planning and zoning commission member Jean Henzel, At-Large Council member Art Scott, Ward 1 Council member Bridget Pavlick, Ward 2 Council member Emerylde Bradley, and residents Donald Scantland and Anna Yupa. Pritchard also will be present at committee meetings. Wagner said the process for choosing a master planning firm has not been finalized and would probably discussed at the meeting. "Now that we have hired a planning director, we can finally move forward," Wagner said. Pritchard was hired by the city July 7, filling a post which had been open since December. The master plan commission is going to be working under guidelines set forth in an out-of-court settlement between the city and the Streetsboro Eyes and Ears Alliance, approved by Council March 3. The settlement came after the group filed a taxpayer legal complaint, claiming members of former Mayor Mark Pavlick's administration didn't follow proper procedure while rezoning several properties. Once a firm is chosen, the settlement states the commission members should have day-to-day communication with the firm, giving it direction on behalf of the city. E-mail:
