Golfers sweep County rivals

The Streetsboro boys earned victories over Portage Trail Conference County Division rivals Windham and James A. Garfield Aug. 27 at Sugar Bush Golf Club in Garrettsville.
The Rockets finished with a score of 176 strokes while Windham and Garfield posted totals of 197 and 212, respectively.
Windham's Cody Apthorpe led all players with a 38. Dan Kopcak paced the Rockets with a 40. Anthony Edwards and David Tackett each scored a 45 and Adam Borlie added a 46 for Streetsboro.
The Ravenna boys golf team earned a 173-198 win over the Rockets in PTC play Aug. 26 at Windmill Lakes Golf Course in Ravenna.
Kopcak and Edwards led the Rockets with scores of 46 strokes. Tackett and Mike Melice each added a 53.
Streetsboro lost to County foes Mogadore and Waterloo Aug. 25 at West's Mogadore Country Club.
Mogadore beat both teams with a score of 157 strokes. Waterloo posted a 158 and the Rockets finished with a 175.
Kopcak led Streetsboro with a 39. Also contributing for the Rockets were Edwards (42), Tackett (45) and Melice (49).
Streetsboro was scheduled to compete against Aurora and Beachwood Sept. 2 at Walden Golf & Tennis Club. Results were not available at press time.
The Rockets are set to play against County rivals Woodridge and Rootstown Sept. 3 in Rootstown and division foe East Canton Sept. 4 at Kent State University Golf Course. Both matches are slated to begin at 3:45 p.m.
Streetsboro is scheduled to play County rivals Waterloo and Mogadore Sept. 5 at Kent State. The match is set to begin at 3:45 p.m.
