U.S. Navy veteran

Jimmie R. Layne, 75, a Streetsboro resident since 1961, died April 6, 2009.

Born May 31, 1933 in Monongah, W.Va. to the late Austin William and Ora Lee (Morris) Layne, Mr. Layne served with the U.S. Navy during the Korean War.

He later worked for the Daimler-Chrysler plant in Twinsburg in quality control, retiring in 1995. He also worked for the Cuyahoga County Library Maple Heights branch.

He was a member of the Kent American Legion Post No. 0496 and a former member of the Streetsboro American Legion Post No. 685.

Survivors include his daughters, Christine (Jack) Hoback of Mattoon, Ill., Bridget (Robert) Weybrecht of Streetsboro; and grandson Nathaniel Weybrecht.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret Layne, granddaughter Lauren Weybrecht, and eight brothers and sisters.

Funeral services took place April 11 at Shorts Spicer Crislip Funeral Home in Streetsboro with Kent American Legion personnel officiating.

Interment followed in Evergreen Cemetery in Streetsboro.
