World War II veteran

Michael Protz, 87, of Streetsboro, a decorated World War II Navy veteran, died April 14, 2009. Mr. Protz was born in Coal Run, Pa. July 21, 1921 to the late John and Anastasia Kott Protz.

He was a member of St. Mary's Orthodox Church in Akron and retired from Chrysler with 30 years of service. Mr. Protz also was a member of the United Auto Workers Union, American Legion, Fraternal Order of Eagles, and the C&Y Young Township Sportsmen's Gun Club and an avid sportsman.

He is survived by his sister, Helen Kovac; sons, Michael and Andrew; daughter-in-law, Betty; six grandchildren, Michael, Adale, Juliana, Jaclyn, John, and Kathleen; and two great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Catherine, and daughter, Kathleen.

Funeral services took place April 18 at St. Mary's Orthodox Church in Akron.
