The Akron man suspected in hundreds of burglaries
throughout the Portage County area pleaded not guilty to
initial charges filed against him in Portage County Common
Pleas Court last week.
Timothy Anders, 42, was indicted by a Portage County grand
jury Thursday on three counts of second-degree felony
burglary charges. Anders pleaded not guilty to all three
charges Monday before Portage County Common Pleas Judge
Laurie Pittman.
Pittman set Anders’ cash bond at $100,000, and he remains
in the Portage County jail.
The indictment charges involved three separate homes
located in Mogadore, Brimfield and Kent.
Portage County Prosecutor Victor Vigluicci said his office
filed the second-degree felony charges because the
burglaries occurred at residences, but the charges do not
necessarily indicate the occupants were home at the time of
the offenses.
“It means that they are homes where people are present or
likely to be present,” Vigluicci said.
Authorities believe Anders is responsible for at least 135
burglaries in Brimfield alone, in addition to dozens more
in eight other communities and three counties. In total,
investigators believe Anders may have taken part in 300
theft incidents within the past three months.
Brimfield Police Chief David Blough said the investigation
has uncovered as many as five or six possible suspects who
may be involved in the burglaries.
“We’re continuing to investigate it,” Blough said. “We’re
going to continue to work it until anyone who received
stolen items or was responsible for the theft of any items
is arrested and prosecuted.”
Brimfield police are working with the Portage County
Sheriff’s Office and law enforcement agencies in
Streetsboro, Suffield, Rootstown, Lake Township, Hudson,
Silver Lake, Marlboro Township and Uniontown.
Vigluicci said a pre-trial has been set for Anders on Aug.
21 with his case set for trial Sept. 1.
In the meantime, Vigluicci said he expects further charges
will be filed.
