Wilson fares well Streetsboro graduate Robert Wilson, a freshman on the Urbana University men’s basketball team, had eight points, nine rebounds and two blocks during Urbana’s 84-48 home victory over Miami University-Hamilton Nov. 19. He also had 10 points during Urbana’s 83-82 win over Glenville State College Nov. 15 in Fairmont, W. Va.
Herbstreit to visit Cleveland The Greater Cleveland Sports Commission recently announced that Kirk Herbstreit, the analyst of ESPN’s College GameDay, is scheduled host the 2009 Greater Cleveland Sports Awards Feb. 3 at the Renaissance Cleveland Hotel. Herbstreit has been a college football studio analyst since 1996. He joined ESPN in September 1995 as a college football sideline analyst for ESPN2, has previously been a game analyst for ESPN’s Thursday night college football telecasts and is currently in the booth for Saturday night college football games on ABC. In addition to being an analyst, Herbstreit is a former quarterback for The Ohio State University, where he earned his degree in business administration in 1993. Tables to the benefit are $7,500 for platinum; $5,500 for gold; $2,500 for silver or $250 per individual ticket. The Golden Ticket raffle, which will award a sports fan two season tickets to each of the Cleveland Cavaliers, Indians and Browns home games in 2010, also is now on sale. Only 300 tickets will be sold at $100 each, with the winner to be announced at the Sports Awards. Trio honored The following Streetsboro football players earned Division III Northeast Inland All-District honors recently: Second team: Senior lineman Jason Cook and junior tight end Steve Magic Honorable mention: Sophomore Brandon Gency
Golfers earn awards The Streetsboro boys golf team recently had its banquet. Dan Kopcak was named the team’s Most Valuable Player in 2009. He also had the best putting average. C.J. Diehl earned the coach’s award.
Myers places third Streetsboro resident Steve Myers, 47, placed third in the Drumstick Dash 5K race Nov. 7 in Euclid.
