Man faces drug, theft charges following robbery

Streetsboro -- A loss prevention associate at a retail store on Singletary Drive told police a Kent man, 26, attempted to leave the store without paying for $337 worth of DVDs around 11 p.m. Dec. 17, according to police reports.

The man told police he stole the items to give as Christmas presents, police said.

Police discovered the man had a knife, which he used to open the DVDs in the store, according to police reports.

According to police, drug paraphernalia -- three syringes and a metal spoon -- was found in plain view in the man's vehicle that was parked in the store's parking lot. The paraphernalia could be used in association with a variety of drugs, and the results of laboratory tests for evidence of drugs in the vehicle are pending, police said.

The man was arrested and charged with theft, possession of criminal tools for having the knife, and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was taken to the Portage County Jail, and his vehicle was impounded.

Theft

Dec. 15. Set of keys stolen from vehicle: A Streetsboro woman told police a set of keys were stolen from one of her unlocked vehicles that was parked at her Flora Drive home, according to police reports.

The alleged theft happened between 10 p.m. Dec. 14 and 6:45 a.m. Dec. 15, according to police.

Drug/alcohol related

Dec. 14. Underage intoxication: Police pulled over a 20-year-old Maple Heights man for following a vehicle too closely near the intersection of routes 43 and 14 around 3:15 a.m., according to police. During the traffic stop, the man was arrested and charged with prohibitions and operating a vehicle while intoxicated and underage, police said.

The man was later released on a personal recognizance bond from the Streetsboro Police Department.

Dec. 14. Speed warning: A Kent man, 19, was stopped by police for speeding on Route 43 around 12:10 a.m.

During the stop, police allegedly noticed the odor of marijuana, and a search of the vehicle allegedly found a substance that appeared to be marijuana, according to police reports. The substance is pending laboratory testing, police said.

The man was given a warning for speeding, and a citation for possession of drugs is pending, according to police.

Dec. 17. Driving while intoxicated: After police stopped a 23-year-old Hudson man for speeding around 1:45 a.m. at the intersection of Route 303 and Jefferson Street, police found that he was intoxicated after he failed field sobriety tests, police said.

The man was arrested and taken to the Streetsboro Police Department, where his blood-alcohol content was measured at .116, according to police reports.

He was charged with speeding and operating a vehicle while intoxicated, police said.

Dec. 18. Driving under the influence: Police found a Mantua man, 26, to be intoxicated when he was pulled over for speeding at Route 303 and Jefferson Street around 12:30 a.m., according to police reports.

The man was arrested and gave a blood alcohol breath sample of .112 at the Streetsboro Police Department.

His vehicle was impounded, and he was released to his sister.

Other

Dec. 16. Rear license lamp not working: Police pulled over and cited a 43-year-old Stow man on Route 14 around 1:30 a.m. for a non-working rear license plate lamp.

During the traffic stop, the man was found to have a suspended driver's license in North Carolina and was cited for driving under suspension.

The man's vehicle was towed from the scene.
