World War II veteran

Wayne E. Raleigh, 83, died on Jan. 5, 2010 at Essex of Tallmadge.

Born May 11, 1926, in Glen Campbell, Pa., Mr. Raleigh has lived in Tallmadge since 2004.

Mr. Raleigh graduated high school in Curwensville, Pa., was a U. S. Army Air Force veteran of World War II, and was a member of Bethany United Church of Christ in Cuyahoga Falls.

He retired from the maintenance department at the Kenmore Research Co. with 33 years of service.

He is survived by his wife Pauline V. (Alestock) Raleigh whom he married in 1979; step-daughters Sharon (Doug) Frieson of Cupertino, Calif. and Marilyn (Roger) Williams of Cuyahoga Falls; son David W. Raleigh of Streetsboro; step-son Steve Crites of Alliance; six grandchildren; sister Ruth Ann Wighaman of Clearfield, Pa.; and several nieces and nephews.

Mr. Raleigh was preceded in death by his first wife, the former Barbara Wilkins; a grandchild; parents, Arthur E. and Mildred Christina (Gorman) Raleigh; one sister; and several brothers.

Funeral services took place at the Walton-Schrader Funeral Home Jan. 8 with Mark Steiner of Bethany United Church of Christ officiating.

Interment followed at Maple Grove Cemetery in Ravenna.
