Parents may register their boys and girls for Streetsboro Junior Baseball & Softball this Sunday, Jan. 24. Registration will take place from 2 to 5 p.m. at the American Legion Hall, 10001 Aurora-Hudson Road. There will be another registration session Jan. 31 from 2 to 5 p.m. at the Legion hall. Children who have never participated in junior baseball or are entering a traveling league must submit a copy of a birth certificate at the time of registration. Non-traveling leagues are offered for boys age 4 to 10 and girls between 4 and 8. Traveling leagues are available for boys age 11 to 18 and girls age 9 to 18. The non-traveling leagues are primarily instructional. Players are given equal playing time in a variety of positions. All games will take place at Streetsboro City Park against other Streetsboro Junior Baseball & Softball teams. Traveling leagues are competitive. Players are assigned positions based on demonstrated skills and abilities. Home and away games are played against teams from surrounding communities. New for 2010, boys age 11 and up will compete in the Great Lakes Baseball League. Manager and coach applications also will be available during registration. Anyone interested in umpiring should contact Gary Leech, head umpire at 440-336-2255. For more information, call Rob Starkey at 330-655-1530 or visit the league's Web site. Comments
