Streetsboro school district leaders disappointed the levy failed again? A lot of residents are disappointed due to changes made to the fee paid rubbish program. For a family of two, in our case, we exceed the income of $14,570 by about $210 -- almost at poverty level, but not quite. People are paying property taxes and most of it goes to the schools. They don't want a 9.5-mill continuing levy that will raise them significantly. The School Board must pay the Board of Elections whenever this issue is placed on a special ballot. Spending money that will add more to your deficit defeats the purpose and now they want to try for another levy in May. If it fails, then what? What part of the word "No" does the School Board not get? If the state places the district in "fiscal caution," so be it. The Center for Budget and Policy Priorities estimates by the end of fiscal years 2010 and 2011, 50 states will have faced a combined budget shortfall of at least $350 billion. Thirty-six states have cut higher education spending; 28 have cut spending on services for the elderly. Welcome to reality. Mary Trimmer Streetsboro Comments
