Age: Guitar David Coffield 23; lead vocals Kyle Buckley 23; drums Eric Hartzell 24; and bass Mark Chesnes 21 Hometown: We all live in Stow Day Job: David, cook; Kyle, works at a toy store Off the Wagon; Eric cleans CVCA; Mark's in Kent State University. It all started when ... David moved back from California. I called Mark up the week I moved back from Cali after failing to get into L.A. Film School. I told him I had some songs I was working on and wanted to start something up. From there, the two of us made some very rough demos on a tape deck and started searching for members. Eventually, Kyle walked into where I was working and I remembered him singing in high school for some band. I then asked him over to jam. After one run through of the beatles "I Want you (She's So Heavy)" Mark and I asked him to join. After a few drummers, we got Eric and the lineup has been solid since he joined. Most impressive moment so far: Most impressive is a tie between playing the Kent State Flashfest, opening for The Used, or as a band we enjoyed playing Highfest in Athens, Ohio last April. We had a show Friday night at Jackie Os in Athens and after we were done, someone asked us if we would play a street party tomorrow night. So the next day, we recorded a song during the day and at night we drove our van down to Highfest and played a huge show in front of more than 300 people on roofs, decks, in the street, on cars! It was very exciting time for everyone! We had three encores and went from no one knew us too the status of everyone loved us! It was great. Dream come true: Our dream is to do this for a living. Just keep playing music that we enjoy and others would enjoy. Little-known fact: We like to throw in weird songs in our sets. My favorite to throw into any solo is the guitar part of "I Know What Boys Like" by The Waitresses! Next sightings: We will have an EP release show at The Kent Stage Feb 26. We are releasing our new five-song EP "For All We Know." Tickets are $5 advance through www.kentstage.org or $7 day of show, show starts at 8 p.m. For details, visit http://www.myspace.com/theknownothingsband online. Comments
