Teams needed for men’s softball tourneys

Coed and men’s softball tournaments are coming up April 17 and 18 at Streetsboro City Park and teams are being sought. Rain dates are April 24-25.

Each team is guaranteed two games in the double-elimination format. Trophies will be awarded to the top placing teams. Recreation and all class levels are welcome.

Games begin at 8 a.m. and continue until winners are declared. Entry fee is $140 per team, and fees must be paid by check or cash at the managers meeting, which is scheduled for April 15 at 6:30 p.m. at the Field 7 pavilion.

Wrestling scheduled

for March 13

The Ohio State Girls Wrestling Tournament is scheduled to take place March 13 in Mantua. Wrestling is set to begin at 10 a.m.

The event will feature Crestwood senior Paige Nemec, who finished 1-2 at 103 pounds during the Division II state meet, which concluded March 6 in Columbus. Nemec won the Ohio State Girls Wrestling Tournament last year.

Play for Rockers

The Streetsboro Rockers are set to have sign-ups for positions in 10-and-younger, 12-and-younger and 14-and-younger teams soon.

There will be multiple teams in various age groups (Division 1 and 2).

Umpires needed

A training clinic for hardball, slow-pitch and fast-pitch softball umpires is scheduled to take place March 28 at the City of Streetsboro Parks & Recreation, which is located at 9184 State Route 43, from 1 to 5:30 p.m.

Hoops offered

The Varsity Athletic Club is set to host its “Spring Shootout” basketball tournament March 27 and 28 in Wooster. Four shootout-style games are $100 per team. 

The tournament for girls in grades 5 through 12 is set for March 27. The tournament for boys in grades 4-12 is scheduled for March 28.

Wilson fares well

Streetsboro graduate Robert Wilson, a freshman on the Urbana University men’s basketball team, had 14 points during Urbana’s 92-73 loss to Ohio Dominican (Columbus) University recently.
