During the Nov. 6 general election, not all candidates seeking election will have their names listed on the touch screen ballot.
Portage County Board of Elections Director Lois Enlow said when voters reach an elected position for which they wish to elect a write-in candidate, the voter needs to touch a prompt on the right side of the screen asking if they want to write in a name. A screen will appear that will allow the voter to type in the name of the write-in candidate they want to vote for.
After a voter types in a candidate's name, Enlow said the screen will ask them to confirm the name that they typed, so they can retype it if they made a mistake. She said that a vote will count for a candidate as long as the Board is able to tell the intent of the typed named, so misspellings will not count against a candidate.
Enlow said that only votes for write-in candidates certified by the Board would be counted with any other names typed in being disregarded.
