Streetsboro -- An employee of a cell phone company reported Jan. 7 $1,800 in materials missing from a service shed near a cell phone tower on Frost Road, which he was servicing.
According to the report, five copper bus bars, which are used as a low voltage high current electricity conductor, and 40 feet of copper wire were missing. The lock on the gate had been cut off.
Police said there are no suspects at this time.
Operating a vehicle while intoxicated
Jan. 3 Driver charged with intoxicated driving: A motorist driving in an incorrectly registered vehicle along Interstate 480 was charged with operating a vehicle under the influence in the afternoon.
An officer at a Route 14 gas station found the vehicle's license plate was registered to a different vehicle.
According to the report, when the officer tried to pull the vehicle over on Interstate 480, the driver stopped in the middle of the road.
Police said the driver was detained in the police cruiser until his vehicle could be moved to the side of the road by another officer. Officers noticed signs of intoxication from the driver, who failed a field sobriety test, according to the report.
Police said the driver was later found to have a blood-alcohol level of .126 and was charged with operating a vehicle while intoxicated, driving under the suspended license and fictitious plate. The driver was later transported to Portage County Jail, according to the report.
Violating protection order
Jan. 3. Kent man charged with violating protection order: A woman working in the northwestern quadrant of the city reported an ex-boyfriend was calling her at work five to six times a day, allegedly in violation of a temporary protection order she had against him.
According to the report, the man was calling the woman to obtain her aunt's phone number, who also reportedly has a protection order against him. The woman told police both she and her manager told the man to stop calling the business, but he continued calling.
Police said the man was charged with violating the women's protection orders.
A warrant for his arrest has been issued.
Theft
Jan. 4. Employee charged with stealing $930: A Classic Drive business reported that $930 in cash was removed from a cash register between Dec. 17 and Jan. 3.
According to the report, the business manager said one employee had been on register duty on the days the money had been found missing. Police said they spoke with the employee, who admitted taking the money because he had been "short" on money.
The employee was charged with theft and was released at the police station, according to the report.
Jan. 4. $45 worth of gas stolen: An employee of a Route 303 gas station reported a vehicle left without paying for $45 worth of gas.
According to the report, employees were unable to obtain the vehicle's license plate number. Police could not obtain it from a copy of the surveillance video.
Police said there are no suspects at this time.
