Streetsboro -- Police responded Jan. 19 to a Route 14 gas station after employees reported a man laying in the parking lot after allegedly being attacked by four men early in the morning.
The man received a cut over his eye and had a torn pant leg and was taken to Robinson Memorial Hospital, according to the report.
The clerk told police around 3 a.m. he had seen the man in a shouting match with a another man at a different pump when they began fighting. According to the report, the clerk said three other men then left the store and joined in the fight, attacking the victim. Police said the four men then ran into a vehicle and drove away.
Police said the man called police Jan. 20 to report that he could not remember much of the incident and would be unable to identify his alleged assailants. He also reported his cell phone was missing.
Theft
Jan. 18. Woman charged with theft: An employee of a Route 303 business reported she had a women in custody in the theft of $849 worth of high definition movies.
According to the report, the woman had allegedly cut open the discs and tried to remove the theft-protection devices inside. Police said the woman was charged with theft and possession of criminal tools.
The woman was taken to the Portage County Justice Center and was later released.
Jan. 23. Man charged with theft: A Singletary Drive store employee reported a man was caught allegedly trying to steal two video game controllers, worth $100.
According to the report, the man had tried to cut the package open with scissors and was caught while trying to remove them from the packaging. Police said the man was charged with theft and possession of criminal tools and was released to his parents at the police station.
Intoxicated driving
Jan. 18. Driver charged with intoxicated driving: An officer saw a vehicle with one headlight speeding on Route 14 and pulled over the driver around 8 a.m.
According to the report, the officer noticed signs of intoxication from the driver, who failed a field sobriety test. Police said the driver was later found to have a .160 blood-alcohol level and was charged with operating a vehicle while intoxicated.
The driver was released at the police station, according to the report.
Fraud
Jan. 18. Business reports receiving bad checks: A manager of a Route 43 business reported receiving four bad checks from two individuals in November.
According to the report, the first check for $110 was received by the business on Nov. 9, but the store was later informed that the bank account had been closed.
Police said the second person allegedly wrote three checks totaling $152 between Nov. 20 and Nov. 22.
The manager signed charges of fraud against both individuals, and a summons for court was sent to them in the mail.
